The Sega Genesis (Mega Drive in Europe and Japan) is a 16-bit console developed by Sega. It was the direct successor to the Sega Master System. With the help of Sega's flagship series, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Sega Genesis was able to earn a considerable share of the home console market from Nintendo.

With a special attachment, the Sega Genesis could play Sega Master System games.
